I had a wonderful weekend away visiting our nation’s capital. We’ve had the trip planned for about a month and it came at the perfect time. Washington, D.C. is only about a two hour drive from our house. It’s also an easy drive. We left Saturday morning and arrived around eleven. We immediately when into tourist mode and started taking in the sites.
We started at the Air and Space Museum. The boys loved seeing all the airplanes. I really loved the space exhibits. I have always been interested in space. We spent about an hour looking through the museum before eating lunch. After lunch we walked over to the Natural History Museum. This one was probably my favorite. The Gem exhibit was the most fascinating to me. Three words…the Hope Diamond. Be still my heart. Logan said he’d get it for me for Valentine’s Day.
We had tickets for the Capital’s game. We headed to the hotel to the let the boys rest a bit before the game. The view from our hotel was great. We were pretty much smack dab in the middle of downtown. It made things very easy. We decided to cab it to the game. The wilds had their first taxi ride. They thought it was so cool. We were in a suite. That makes taking the boys to games so much easier. They aren’t confined to a seat. The Caps won!
Sunday morning we took a stroll down Pennsylvania Avenue. We walked by the National Monument. We ended the day at the American History Museum. The Star Spangled Banner exhibit was my favorite part of the whole weekend. Seeing that awesome piece of American history was breathtaking. No photos are allowed in the exhibit. I had such a wonderful time with my boys. I can’t wait to visit D.C. again when the weather is nicer.
Have you ever been to Washington, D.C.? What was your favorite part?
