Have you tried your hands at a Spartan race yet? We will be at the race in DC later this summer. I’m excited to finally see it in action. I am a big fan of all things Spartan. Right now there is a special discount code in honor of Memorial Day! If you have been on the fence now is the time to sign up!
We had such a great weekend. Dominion Riverrock was this past weekend and it was so much fun. It’s an outdoor sports and music festival. Friday night John and I did the Filthy 5k. It was a little rough getting started. As soon as you start it’s straight uphill. Holy shaking legs. It’s been awhile since I’ve ran so it was definitely tough. I really loved it once we hit the trails. I can’t wait to go back and run those trails again.
Saturday afternoon we headed back this time with the wilds in tow. John ran the James River 10k Scramble. While he ran the boys and I watched some of the BMX guys. The boys thought it was so cool. We also watched some of the kayaking. We caught the end of the dog jump. Those dogs can fly! There was plenty to keep us busy.
After John finished his race we headed for the concert area. Blues Traveler was playing and John really wanted to see them. Unfortunately there were way too many people there. It was impossible to get close enough to the stage to hear the band. So instead we watched the rock climbers for a bit. Those people are beasts!
Sunday morning we got up bright and early for John’s last soccer game of the season. This was their best game yet. It was so much fun to watch. They walked away with a shutout 10-0. Later that afternoon we went golfing. I was a little nervous that the boys would be bored. They had a blast handing John and I our clubs and taking out the flag. I was pleasantly surprised.
We had a great weekend spending some good quality time together. It was just what we needed!
I’m going to admit something. I was not looking forward to Saturday morning. I am usually totally pumped for races. My heart was just not into it. I have been hitting the gym a few times a week. However, I have not ran since March. Yep, there I admitted it. That being said, I had an absolute blast!
I picked up our packets on Friday so we wouldn’t have to mess with it Saturday morning. We arrived at Pocahontas State Park around 9:00. So we had an hour to warm up and walk around. We took in all the sights and I just tried to get my mind in the game. As our start time approached I started to get more pumped. I was getting my normal pre race jitters.
It was finally time to line up. As soon as the horn went off I blasted through on an adrenaline high. I felt awesome. At that moment I knew I was right where I was suppose to be. I had my runner’s high back and wasn’t letting go. The trail through the park was absolutely gorgeous. I definitely will be going back.
This course was the perfect race to get back into the saddle. Difficulty wise it was very easy. It is also the perfect race for a novice mudder. I think that an experienced mudder would have fun, but it wouldn’t be very challenging. It’s meant to be a fun run and not very competitive.
I had a smile on my face that couldn’t be wiped off. I didn’t realize how much I missed running. I need to get it back into my schedule. I need to get my running partner (John) back in the game. I really enjoy racing with my hubby by my side. I love the back and forth of checking on each other. He motivates me and hopefully I do the same for him. There’s no other feeling like crossing the finish line with my better half.
Thanks 5k Foam Fest for being so awesome! You have reignited my love for running. It feels great to be back!
It’s my favorite time of year! Running season! I’m super excited to announce that I am the Virginia Ambassador for Dirty Girl Mud Run. If you’ve been around this blog you know how much I love a good muddy obstacle run. They will always be my favorite type of run. There is something so empowering about finishing these races.
Dirty Girl Mud Run is an all women’s 5k mud run and obstacle course. It is for women of all fitness levels. No need to worry about your time. It is all about fun. Worried there will be an obstacle you can’t complete? Simply walk around it. Seriously, there is no pressure. Everyone is in it together. Just give it your best shot while laughing until your face hurts.
I have ran a handful of mud runs. They never get old. Each one has been unique in it’s own way. I love the idea of a noncompetitive run with your girlfriends. It’s a great way for everyone to let loose for the day. Everyone needs a good ole dip in the mud every now and again. And mud is great for your skin so it’s like a trip to a day spa ;)
I will be running the Virginia Beach race on April 26th. I can’t wait. I haven’t ran a mud run since last July. I am chomping at the bit to get back in the mud. Let me know if you plan on running. I’d love to meet up. And I have a special discount just for my readers!

This was my first week back to hitting it hard. And I nailed it! I feel awesome and have dropped a few pounds to show for it. It’s been awhile since I’ve been a consistent gym rat. I figured what better time to get back on track than the New Year. I’ve been in the gym everyday this week. I may take this weekend off. Not sure yet though.
I stuck to cardio. I know that I need strength training. I just wanted to bust out some hardcore sweat sessions to get back into the habit. I’m going to start trying the classes next week. Our new gym here in Virginia is great. We pay only about 10 more dollars a month and get so much more. My favorite part is that the wilds are members too. The kid’s club is not just childcare. They have activities and classes for them.
|Love this new little gadget!|
I have eaten very clean this week. I started tracking with My Fitness Pal again. I love it. It does all the work for me. I love that I can see not just how many calories I’m eating but also the nutritional content of it all. I haven’t even maxed out my calories once this week. Winning!! I’m been very conscious to what I’m putting in my body. And I feel fabulous! Remember when I said I hate getting up in the mornings? Well it’s getting easier and easier now that I’ve reset my body.
I’m really thinking about signing up for the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k. It is a really big race here in Richmond. The thought of running 6.2 miles make me cringe considering I haven’t ran a 5k in 6 months. Go big or go home. I’ll make my decision in the next two weeks. I need to test out my legs and see where they are. The race is at the end of March.
I’m feeling so proud of my first week on my road #getbacktofit. I’m very motivated and determined to make this year my year in fitness. Last year was great but it fell short with how busy we were with the move. I’m also a Pretty Muddy Ambassador again this year. I have not yet had a chance to run this race. By golly I’m running it this year come Hell or high water! Hey Mom – come and run it with me!!
How was your week in fitness? Have you set any fitness goals this year?
