Life Lately

Life is good. Life is really good right now. We have a lot going on. Mom has been here for the past three weeks. It’s been great having her help. John and I have even been on a couple of dates. You really don’t realize how tough it is with no family close. Having mom here just reminds me how much we miss her and all of our family back home.

Nathan is starting t-ball on Saturday. I am very excited to see how it goes. We’ve had him in soccer for two seasons. We thought we’d try something else and see how he likes it. He does pretty well when we practice with him. Although Logan always steals the show. Logan is going to be our athlete. He’s a little slugger already.

We are waiting anxiously to see if Nathan made it into a charter school. The cost of private school is just too much right now. A charter school would be the next best thing. There are three of them in our area. We are really pulling for our top choice. We will find out on the 18th if he made it in. I’ve been praying about it and I’m going to leave to God.

Logan is growing more every day. John looked at me the other day and said that Logan isn’t a baby anymore. No, he is not. He is becoming a little boy. It makes me so proud to watch how far he has come. But it’s also a little sad that my babies are not babies anymore. He follows Nathan everywhere and mocks his every move. I’ve been trying to explain to Nathan that his little brother looks up to him and is not doing it to be annoying. Brothers :)

John is busy preparing for his next race. He is doing Mud Endeavor again in a couple of weeks. He is running it with a friend this time around. I’ll be joining him for the one on April 22nd. I’m so proud of him. It’s been amazing to watch how far he has come with his running. I can’t wait to see how he does with his race. He has gotten much quicker since training for the half. I am one proud wifey :)

As I mentioned briefly I was asked to be a contributor for a new City Moms Blog. The Tampa Bay site will be launching April 29th. I am so excited for this opportunity. All I have ever wanted to do is write. This is going to hopefully give me a bigger voice with a bigger audience. It is going to test my writing ability. I cannot wait to see what’s in store. I can feel God answering prayers.

Life has been very good to us lately. I really can’t complain. How’s life been treating you?

Yelp’s Brunch at the Zoo

What an awesome day! We woke up bright and early to do the Bolt Run. This run deserves it’s own post so more on that later. After the race we headed out to the Lowry Park Zoo for a Yelp Elite event. Wow, Yelp you did it again! And the weather could not have been more perfect.

The theme of the event was DinoQuest 2. What is DinoQuest? It’s an exhibit of 22 very realistic dinosaurs. We saw them the first time around back in 2011. The wilds love dinosaurs so this exhibit is perfect for them. Logan was a little freaked out. They are so life-like he thought they were real. Definitely worth checking out. Even if you don’t have little ones this is fun for all ages.

We started with a Yelp Elite brunch. It was all you can eat food and drink. Right off the bat I had a mimosa in hand. Score! I’m sold already. The food was amazing! My favorite was the truffle macaroni and cheese bites. They seriously melted in my mouth. A close second was the chorizo and pasta dish. Party in my mouth! I definitely could have went back for seconds but wanted to save room for dessert.

Cake balls!!! I would have been happy with just eating cake balls the whole time. These were red velvet. Yes, I said red velvet. Holy heaven on a platter. They were the size of baseballs. Okay maybe not that big but they were the biggest I have ever seen. I contemplated stuffing some in my jacket. They were that good. Who new the zoo catering staff makes such wonderful food?! And now you know :)

I felt much better this time around and mingled. I had fun chatting with new people. After stuffing our faces and a couple mimosas later we said our goodbyes. We went straight to see the baby elephant. She is so sweet. It was really cool to watch the baby running around. She was born on December 23rd and is already 300 pounds. I just love baby animals.

My mom brought the boys so we could have a family zoo day. We took the boys to see the dinos and then made our rounds through the zoo. It was such a great day. I got the best of both worlds. Quality time with John in the morning and then family time in the afternoon. I was a happy camper.

If you are in the Tampa area you really need to check out DinoQuest 2. And if you are not a member of Yelp yet, what are you waiting for? I’ve gained a social life out of nowhere and am loving every minute of it!
