Fun Cat Craft

Thank you to Netflix for partnering with me. I am a proud #StreamTeam Member.

The wilds got a cat making craft kit for Christmas from their aunt and uncle. We made a couple of them on Christmas day. I decided to pull them out last night. I’ve mentioned before that we love crafting. The kit has all the templates you need to make the cats. It’s an easy project for the boys and we really had fun with it.

We took our cats a step further this time. Netflix released a new series The Adventures of Puss in Boots last Friday. I had the idea that we would make our own Puss in Boots that could watch the show with them. The boys really got a kick out of the project and the show! It’s one we all enjoyed and I am sure we will be watching more of it.

We don’t have any pets. I told the boys that maybe when they are old enough to take care of it themselves they can get a fish. For now they will have to make due with watching their furry friends on the screen. Netflix has lots of great animal inspired shows. We also love all the Buddies movies. Those puppies are so cute. Here’s a few recommendations:

animals

1. Pet Party
2. Clifford’s Puppy Days
3. Littlest Pet Shop
4. The Adventures of Milo and Otis
5. Snow Buddies
6. Sabrina, The Animated Series

Have you watched The Adventures of Puss in Boots yet?

Paper Roll Turkey Craft

November 20, 2014

My favorite holiday is a week from today! I’m a turkey baby (I was born on Thanksgiving) so it’s only fitting that it’s my favorite. I love all the food. I could eat a whole box of stuffing in one sitting. I can also cook a mean turkey. I learned from my momma. The best part is that we are taking a day to celebrate our blessings and what we are thankful for in our lives. I have the perfect Thanksgiving craft — paper roll turkey craft.

I have always loved Thanksgiving. I have many warm memories of Thanksgivings past. I hope my boys grow up to love it as much as I do. I love doing holiday crafts with them. I try to find crafts that are easy and do not require a lot of supplies. I want it to be as fun for the boys as it is for me. If things get too complicated they get frustrated.

I’ve told you about my love for empty toilet paper rolls before. I hate throwing them out. For this craft you need empty paper rolls, construction paper, googly eyes, scissors, and tape. You can also use glue. I’m a instant gratification person. I hate waiting for the glue to dry so I’m a tape user all the way!

Supplies:

Empty paper roll
Brown, Orange, Red, & Yellow construction paper
Googly eyes
Scissors
Tape or Glue

Directions: Cut out the brown paper so that it will cover the paper roll for to be the body. Next cut out the feathers from the orange, red, and yellow paper. Cut out a nose from the orange paper. Cut out a gizzard from the red paper. Tape or glue the brown paper around the roll. Next arrange your feather how you want them to look. Tape or glue them to the back of the roll. Next tape or glue on your turkey face pieces. That’s it! Easy right.

One of things I am most thankful for this year is the friendships I’ve made. I am so blessed to have met so many wonderful people since we’ve moved to Richmond. We have more friends than ever and I am so thankful for every one of them. Life is much more enjoyable when you can share it with loved ones. I’ve been trying to teaching the wilds the importance of friendship by leading by example.

Netflix has some great title to help with this lesson:

netflixtitles

1. Bob and Larry:VeggieTales in the House
2. Bert and Ernie: Sesame Street: Elmo and Friends
3. Bo and Dezzy: Bo on the Go!
4. Justin and Olive: Justin Time
5. Tod and Copper: The Fox and the Hound 2
6. Clifford and Elizabeth: Clifford

And keeping with the friends theme here….ALL 10 seasons of “Friends” hits Netflix January 1st!!

What are you thankful for this year?

Turkey Hat Tutorial

A couple weeks ago we ran the neighborhood Turkey Trot. I made the boys turkey hats to get into the festive spirit. They were super easy to make. Today I’ll share how I did it step by step. I bought all the supplies at Hobby Lobby. They are always having good sales. I spent around $10 for both hats total.

Supplies:

Baseball cap
Felt – Brown, Orange and Red
Wiggly eyes
Feathers
Scissors
Hot glue

First wrap the brown felt around the front of the hat. Just play with it until you get the fit you want. Hot glue it to the hat. Then glue on the eyes. I cut out an orange triangle for the nose and glued it on.
I then took the feathers and started gluing them on. You can add as little or as many as you want. I also cut out the wattle from the red felt and glued it on. I had no idea it was called a wattle. Most people call it the gobble. To add a little fun to the back I glued a few feathers to poke up at the top.
And there you have it. It is super simple to make. It look me about 30 minutes to make both hats. I love how they turned out. The boys got more compliments than I can count on the hats. Have you done any fun crafts for Thanksgiving?

Halloween Home Tour

October 11, 2012

The only holiday I usually decorate for is Christmas. This year I’ve decided to change that up. Since Nathan really understands Halloween now, I thought it would be fun to do up the house. So here’s my Halloween Home Tour.

I spray painted empty bottles black and then hot glued on embellishments I picked up from the dollar store. For the subway art I just googled free printable Halloween Subway Art and printed out the one I liked. I always have empty frames around. If you need frames the dollar store has tons.

I made two of these Halloween print slip covers. They are on the chairs in our front room. We have a split floor plan. So we have a formal front room and we have a living room. I made these buy purchasing 2.5 yards of fabric and liquid stitch. 2.5 yards was enough for two 20 x 20 slip covers with a little fabric left over. I simply glued three sides, let it dry, slipped in my pillows, and there you have it. You can get fancy and glue velcro in if you would like to close the last edge.

For our dining room table I pulled out these place mats that we’ve had forever. We also had the candy dishes. I added some pie pumpkins and a gourd. I have a few of these hanging decorations, like the pumpkin above, that I picked up from the dollar spot at Target.

I spruced up our kitchen table with the leftover fabric from the slip covers.

Our front door is Nathan’s favorite part. His favorite color is green. I picked up this skeleton at the dollar store. The K I made by cutting out a K from cardboard. I mod podged scrapbook paper over it. I then glued on a satin bow to fancy it up a bit. The only thing missing is our pumpkins. We are getting them this weekend.

Hope you enjoyed a glimpse into our Halloween Decor. It was super easy and fun to do. The best part…it cost me barely anything to do. It really makes the house festive :)
