Can you believe that Christmas is next week?! Every year I make a special treat for all the neighbors in our Culdesac. It’s my way of saying Merry Christmas and letting them know we appreciate them. The past couple of years I have made my delicious Red Velvet Cake Balls. They are very festive and taste amazing. I have so much fun making them. They are definitely made with love.
I have tried different containers throughout the years. I have to say that the Rubbermaind TakeAlongs are my favorite. They come in festive colors like holiday print, all green, and all red. They are perfect for transporting all your holiday goodies to parties and get togethers. I love to share my cake balls in them because my neighbors can reuse them. They feature Quik Clik Seal™ technology which keeps food secure and helps prevent spills in transport. It’s the gift that keeps giving. You can pick them up at Walmart.
My Red Velvet Cake Balls are much easier to make than they look. I use a box of red velvet cake mix and make it according to the directions. Once it has cooled down crumble the cake up. I use my mixer but you can also do it by hand. Add a container of cream cheese icing and mix until well combined. Roll the cake and icing mixture into 1.5 inch balls and place on a platter or cookie sheet. Pop them into the freezer for at least an hour.
After the cake balls have had a chance to chill it’s time to dip them. I used chocolate candy coating on half and white chocolate coating on the other half. Melt it down in a dish and roll the cake ball around to coat it. Place it back on the platter. Pop them back in the freezer to let the coating dry. Then it’s time to decorate them. I used red and green candy melts to add a pop of Christmas color.
- Red Velvet Cake Mix - prepared according to package
- Can of Cream Cheese frosting
- Chocolate Candy Coating
- White Chocolate Candy Coating
- Red Candy Melts
- Green Candy Melts
- Prepare the cake mix according to the package. Once the cake has cooled crumble it up either by hand or in the mixer. Add the whole can of icing to the cake and mix until well combined. Roll the mixture into 1.5 inch balls. Place on a platter or cookie sheet and place in the freezer for at least an hour. Once the cake balls are chilled melt the candy coating. Dip the cake balls into the chocolate and place back onto the cookie sheet. Place them back into the freezer so that the chocolate coating can set. Melt the colored candy melts and use a fork to drizzle it on the cake balls. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator. This recipe makes about 4 dozen cake balls.
I wanted to dress up the Rubbermaid TakeAlongs before delivering my treats to the neighbors. I wrapped the cake balls in festive tissue paper and placed them in the container. I tied up the container with ribbon. I placed our Christmas card on top and my packages were ready. I think they turned out super cute if I do say so myself. There is special Ibotta $1 Off Of Any 2 Rubbermaid TakeAlongs Products rebate offer, exclusive to Walmart shoppers. Saving money is always a plus especially around the holidays.
Is there a special treat that you share with your loved ones every year? I’d love to hear about it in the comments. Visit here for more fun holiday ideas!
