Yes!

I started this blog two years ago. A few big life events occurred before then. So I'm going to go back in time and document them.

First up - Our engagement

When John and I first got together his company would send all the GMs and their significant others on a trip every year. It consisted of four days and three nights at a posh hotel in Florida. In 2005 they sent us to the Ritz Carlton in Naples, Florida. What a beautiful place!

Our first day there we spent all day on the beach. We spent several hours in the sun, drinking, and relaxing. Our only commitment for the day was dinner that evening. Dinner was set up in the courtyard. The food was great but I wasn't feeling too well. I think I had been out in the sun too long that day.

John's bosses were getting ready to make their opening remarks. I told John I think I needed to slip away because I was feeling really bad. He asked me if I could wait it out. He didn't want me to be rude and leave before their speeches. So I held it together and agreed I would wait it out.

A few people spoke about different things. Then John was asked to say a few words. Wait, what?! He stood up and starting talking. At first, I thought he was drunk and I was mortified that he was speaking in front of all of his bosses and his peers. But then I started really listening to the words he was saying.

He gave the sweetest speech about dedication and inspiration. John then asked me to stand up with him. At this point I had figured it out but was shell shocked. He got down on one knee and said "Jennifer on this beautiful evening in Florida. You've been there for me for two years. We've moved. We've done everything we can together. But we need to do more. Jennifer, will you marry me?"

There was no hesitation. He slipped the ring on my finger and I immediately said yes! Everyone started clapping and cheering. And little did I know a good majority of the crowd, including his bosses, was in on the surprise. We took lots of pictures, got many congratulations, and spent a great evening celebrating with friends. I couldn't have been happier!

I then started getting all the details. He had gone to Cincinnati and picked out my ring. His friends (who also worked for the same company) brought it down with them so I wouldn't see it. He had also faked a work trip a few months before so he could sneak up to Indy and ask my parents for permission. He had me completely fooled and totally surprised.

Our engagement is a day that will be forever in my mind and in my heart. Even though that day happened over 7 years ago I feel like it just happened yesterday. Our love has only grown since the moment he popped the question. I am a very blessed woman!
